Things that weren’t mentioned while we were quarantined

Updated: Jul 12, 2020

As most of us were quarantined for 3 months and a half due to being laid off or school closing, we watched government and health officials give speeches. CDC officials told us to practice social distancing as little as 6 feet from each other, wear masks, wash our hands, and use hand sanitizer to prevent the corona virus from affecting and killing more individuals. These are things that are effective and are indeed things we need to do to avoid the spread of the COVID-19 disease. But what they are failing to mention are the ways to boost your immune system which are actually very simple. These things are even more important as they actually help defeat the virus.

Here are the list of things that can help you boost your immune system and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

1. Clean your house and take out the trash.

Make sure you clean your home consistently. Take the trash out, wash the dishes, and clean all rooms. Use disinfectant chemicals to kill germs. If you would like to use organic disinfectant sprays, that is great too. If you’re asthmatic and allergic, please wear gloves and a mask. Sweep, and mop the floor every night. But keep in mind that whatever type of floor you have, will require a different type of cleaning solution.

2. Wash your facemask (if it’s re-useable /washable)

You can hand wash your face mask with soap and water or wash it at the laundromat. Assure that the mask is dried completely.

3. Take a bath or shower when you come back from running any essential or non-essential errands. Especially large gatherings.

After bathing, put your dirty clothes in a close sealed bag until you are able to wash them. If your throat feels weird or you’re just worried about catching COVID, gargle with warm water and salt a couple of times. This will loosen the mucus and flush out any bacteria.

If you go to the grocery store, make sure you wipe or wash any products that you purchase as soon as you get home before putting it up. You don’t know who touched or breathed on any of the items before you.

4. Boost your immune system.

There are so many ways to boost your immune system. You can eat oranges or drink orange juice, drink water with limes or lemon, or drink water with two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and honey. Make sure to also eat plenty of green vegetables and fruits and take your multivitamins. Preferably, I use herbs and spices such as ginger, turmeric, and sativa. If you’re allergic to any of the foods that I’ve mentioned, you can look up YouTube videos or articles for other foods that will help just as much. Search “ how to boost your immune system” on YouTube or search the title on your internet browser.

A recommended natural remedies includes oranges, lemon or lime, clove anise, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and boiled hot water. You can add onions or garlic or sugar or honey for a sweeter taste. This remedy is good for inhalation and will help get rid of mucus.

If you have a fever, you can cut up raw potatoes into flat pieces. Place the flat potatoes on your forehead, underarms and on the bottom of your feet. By the time the potatoes turn black, your fever should be gone.

5. Stay healthy.

It’s very important for you to be conscious of the food you put in your belly. Try your best to eat less fast food. You can do this by prepping your own meals for the week. If you are not an essential worker, try to exercise at home. You can either walk or jog around your block or workout along trainers on YouTube. While walking or jogging outside, it’s not necessary for you to wear a mask. You should enjoy the fresh air. If your gym is open in your state, that’ll make things much easier. However, if your gym requires you to wear a mask, it’s not the best healthy choice. Wearing a mask when walking is okay but wearing a mask while working out is not good for your breathing.

In conclusion, I am not a herbalist, doctor, nurse, or medical professional but I know you will not hear most of these things from news reporters or health officials. These are simple things that you can do on your own time in your own home. The foods mentioned are accessible and do not require a prescription from your doctor. This corona virus will probably be in the states for a while, so I urge you to try to do some of these things.
